Gun laws can’t disarm negligent parenting

Mayor Menino, who are you going to blame now?
When 8-year-old Liquarry Jefferson was shot and killed by his 7-year-old cousin, Mayor Tom Menino went to their Dorchester home and “offered support to both families,” as he told the press.
And why wouldn’t he? He certainly didn’t think it was the mother’s fault that the two boys and Liquarry’s 2-year-old half-sister were upstairs playing with a pistol – unattended – at 11 p.m.
Instead, Menino claimed the National Rifle Association was partially to blame. “Why is that gun in the house?” Menino asked. Because the NRA opposed tougher gun control laws, that’s why, he concluded.

Steel Challenge Rimfire Poll Results

The Women of USPSA polls for the rimfire event show that Team Smith & Wesson’s Jerry Miculek is favored, by a narrow margin over Glock’s Dave Sevigny, to win the Rimfire Open match. Note that in the Open match, Sarah Irish is the clear favorite of those writing in their vote. Already she leads the field in the Juniors event.

In Rimfire’s “we don’t need no stinkin’ optics” match, captain of the Smith & Wesson shooting team, Julie Golob, is favored over her teammate Phil Strader with John Bagakis, also a member of – you guessed it – Team S&W, holding down third place in the poll.

Have a favorite at this year’s match? Make sure you weigh in on the Women of USPSA‘s Steel Challenge Poll.
